Cricket often witnesses comical mix-ups between batsmen, but some incidents gain greater attention due to the significance of the game. Deepak Hooda’s disastrous IPL season took a turn for the worse when he collided with a well-set Marcus Stoinis, resulting in the Australian star’s dismissal.
Having struggled throughout IPL 2023 with the bat, Deepak Hooda had a disappointing campaign, accumulating just 64 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate below 100. Despite his struggles, he received another opportunity in the Eliminator match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians. However, he could only manage a 13-ball 15, disappointing his loyal fans once again.

However, the highlight moment of Hooda’s innings came during the 12th over of LSG’s chase. Marcus Stoinis, batting brilliantly, had already struck five boundaries and a six, amassing a quickfire 39 off 26 balls. Stoinis flicked a delivery from his fellow Australian Cameron Green towards mid-wicket and initially attempted a couple of runs. However, realizing it was a risky proposition, he decided against it.
Unfortunately, Hooda pushed Stoinis to complete the second run, leading to a collision between the two batsmen and creating a hilarious moment on the field. To add to the unfortunate turn of events, Tim David’s accurate throw from the outfield found Stoinis well short of his crease, resulting in his dismissal.

This mix-up proved to be a defining moment in the contest, with Stoinis’ departure denting LSG’s hopes in their pursuit of 183 runs. Despite Hooda not being solely blamed for the incident, it added to his forgettable IPL campaign and further highlighted the challenges he faced throughout the tournament.
