Sixth and the last of the round match in the Nidahas Trophy ended in an exhilarating finish. There were, however, many bitter moments in the last over of the match which reflects Bangladesh Cricket in poor light. The sight of angry Shakib Al Hasan was not the one that will please the cricketing gods.

The incident in question occurred in the 20th over of Bangladesh innings. Following the first short ball that went unscored, Isuru Udana followed it up with another. Mustafizur Rehman got run-out at the non-striker’s end but the dismissal went unnoticed as sensational scenes took place at the boundary rope.

Shakib Al Hasan, who had joined the squad just on the eve of this match, was raging at the officials for not calling the second short ball as a no-ball. His displeasure was quite vocal, and he demanded his batsmen to come off the ground which would have resulted in a forfeiture.

The Bangladeshi captain was agitated that the square-leg umpire had actually signaled a no-ball and that it was reversed after a discussion. The Bangladeshi substitutes who had run onto the field got into scuffles with the Sri Lankan players, bringing much disrepute to the gentlemen’s game.

The ugly scenes soon subsided as sanely minded authorities diffused the situation. The match ended with a stunning finish that slotted Bangladesh in the tri-series final. The tempers flared again after the end with cricketers swearing and spewing at each other.

Late night, it is learned that the glass door of Bangladesh team dressing room was shattered. Whether it was done by the Sri Lankan fans or any Bangla player remains to be known.

The vicious behavior brought the star all-rounder back in the line of fury. The unacceptable actions from Shakib have been rightly criticised by the cricketing fraternity. While we await the judgment by ICC on this shameful behavior, it must be informed that Shakib has been guilty of such offenses in the past also.

Shakib was famously banned by the Bangladesh Cricket Board in 2014 for six months for making inappropriate gestures on the television. His tempers have often been out of control tarnishing the image of this world-class all-rounder. Collections of few such outbursts can be seen here.
