The fifth and final Test of the five-match Test series between the hosts England and the visitors India will begin on Friday (September 7) at The Oval (London). However, England has already secured the Test series as they are leading the series by 3-1.

After a thrilling 31-run victory in the first Test at Edgbaston (Birmingham), England claimed a massive victory by an innings and 159 runs in the second Test of the series at Lord’s.

India made a comeback in this Test series with a 203-run victory in the third Test at Trent Bridge (Nottingham) but the visitors failed to save the Test series as they lost the fourth Test by 60 runs at The Rose Bowl (Southampton).

So, both the teams are playing the final Test for their pride as both are still desperate to finish the Test series with a victory.

Some other key stats prior to this Test

  • Indian skipper Virat Kohli has scored 544 runs in this Test series. He needs to score 59 more runs to become the most run scorer as an Indian batsman in a Test series on the English soil. Kohli is just behind of former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid who had scored 602 runs in England during the 2002 Test series.
  • None of the opening batsmen from both teams has played a 50+ innings in this Test series. If the similar thing happens in the fifth Test too, it will be the first-ever five-match Test series where the openers fail to play the 50+ innings at least once.
  • English pacer James Anderson needs just five more Test wickets to become the most Test wicket-taking bowler as a pacer. Having now 559 Test wickets, Anderson is looking to break the legendary Australian pacer Glenn McGrath’s record of 563 Test wickets. However, in overall, Anderson will be the fourth most Test wicket-taking bowler.
  • Indian left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan (99 international sixes) needs to hit one more six to complete his 100 sixes in international cricket.
