During the 12th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings at Mohali, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 4 runs.
After being sent in to bat by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Kings XI Punjab scored 197-7 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Chris Gayle, who made his debut for Kings XI tonight, top-scored for the franchise with 63 (33). His innings comprised of seven fours and four sixes. With bowling figures of 3-0-33-2, Shardul Thakur was the pick of the Super Kings’ bowlers.
The Super Kings never really adjusted to the required run rate. Failing to cope up with it, the Super Kings lost wickets at regular intervals which didn’t help their case at all. Dhoni played an innings of significance but was left stranded as there was no one to support him from the other end. Rayudu played well for his 49 (35), but was found wanting against a Ravichandran Ashwin pinpoint throw. His innings comprised of five fours and a six.
Dhoni, who came in to bat at No. 5 in the seventh over, ended up remaining unbeaten on 79* (44) with the help of seven fours and five sixes. The former Indian captain was at his utmost best and at one point had the match in his hands. However, Mohit Sharma’s yorker deliveries did not let him score the required runs in the last over.
For Kings XI, with bowling figures of 4-0-47-2, Andrew Tye was the highest wicket-taker.

Dhoni’s knock was a wonderful reminder of what he can do if he bats higher up the order….most bowlers still don’t know where to bowl to him in the death overs. You see fear in their eyes… #Mahi #KXIPvCSK #IPL

Will never forget what @msdhoni told me while interviewing him for Democracy's XI: you think I am under pressure in the last over, don't forget the bowler is even under greater pressure because he knows he is bowling to me! 😄

That was quite a show by MS Dhoni. Love watching his interviews, loved when he mentioned God has given him enough power he doesn't need to use his back to hit sixes(referring to injury). Kings 11 will be delighted with this win #KXIPvCSK

Congratulations to the boys. Good to win this. Excellent knock from Dhoni ,kept everybody on the edge of their seats. But Chris Gayle ,the Universe Boss was magnificent. Our spinners did well to contain in the middle overs. #KXIPvCSK
