The franchise that was returning to the IPL competition after two years, retained only a single player. The intent was clear, Rajasthan wanted a clean slate. The only fixated point in this scheme was the Australian Steve Smith. Unfortunately for RR, Smith was involved in the ball-tampering scandal and he was handed a year-ban by Cricket Australia. RR also refused to have him this year.
