The 4th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been won by RR as they defeated CSK by 16 runs in a high-scoring game. In the first innings, Lungi Ngidi bowled one of the worst over of his cricketing career as he got smashed for 27 runs in just two balls. Earlier in the wicket-keeper batsman, Sanju Samson added another feather to his cap as he smashed his fastest fifty in their opening match.

Samson brought up his half-century in just 19 balls with the help of 6 towering sixes and a sole boundary. CSK skipper, MS Dhoni won the toss and asked the RR to bat first. Samson’s fifty was his 11th in the IPL. After the earlier dismissal of young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the third over, Samson added as many as 121 runs for the second wicket along with Steve Smith.

Sanju Samson was eventually dismissed for 74 off 32 balls by Lungi Ngidi in the 12th over, by then, the youngster had already done a lot of damage by then with RR’s score reading 2 for 132. After the dismissal of Samson, Steve Smith carried forward the ship of RR but he also got out in the 19th over still Rajasthan reached a total of 187/7 in 19 overs.

However, the final over of was nothing short of carnage from Jorfra Archer as he smashed as many as four sices in the over as along with Tom Curran he amassed 200 runs in the over as RR reached the total of 217/8 in their quota of 20 overs.

During the chase, CSK started off on a decent note as they added 53 runs off the first six overs without losing any wicket. However, a mini-collapse happened for them in between as from the position of 57/0 they collapsed to 77/4 with the dismissal of Shane Watson (33 off 21 balls), Murali Vijay, Sam Curran (17 off 5 balls), and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

After the collapse, Faf du Plessis and Kedar Jadhav made an effort of increasing momentum as they added 37 runs in just 28 balls for the 6th wicket before Jadhav’s dismissal in the 14th over. Then came out MS Dhoni, who scored just 10 runs his first 13 balls when CSK was requiring 103 runs off in 28 balls. However, he smashed 29 runs in the next four balls, but it wasn’t enough for his team to go over the line. 

Dhoni added 65 runs off just 31 runs with Du Plessis for the 6th wickets eventually, CSK lost the game by 16 runs as the latter got out to Archer in the penultimate over.

Rahul Tewatia played a crucial role in triggering the collapse for CSK as in the 7th over he got the priced wicket of Shane Watson, then in the 9th over he got the wickets of big-hitting Sam Curran and youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad on back-to-back deliveries. He finished teh game with the spell of 3/37.

After taking three wickets against Mumbai Indians (MI) Lungi Ngidi had done decent bowling before he came out to bowl the final over of the first innings but them Jofra Archer smashed him for 30 runs and all good he had done in the match got wasted. Earlier he had also taken the wicket of Sanju Samson
