Chennai Super Kings have announced their replacement for Sam Curran for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2021 in the UAE. Barbados-born pacer Dominic Drakes has been roped in by CSK in place of injured Sam Curran.
Curran sustained a problem in his lower back and complained of pain. Hence, he has been ruled out of the IPL 2021 as well as the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

Curran was a regular feature in the CSK playing XI during the ongoing season of the IPL. However, his form has dipped in the second leg after some fine performance in the first leg.
Dominic Drakes, who was already in the UAE as a net bowler, will join CSK ahead of their last league game against Punjab Kings, scheduled to take place on October 7 in Dubai.
CSK sought permission from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the replacement. They announced the replacement after getting a nod of yes from the board. According to the rules, a franchise can replace injured players before their last league game. Hence, CSK did it in time.

Drakes was already in the IPL bubble, having been picked up by the Mumbai Indians as a net bowler. The 23-year-old left-arm seamer, son of former West Indies cricketer Vasbert, was one of the stars of St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots side that recently clinched the Caribbean Premier League 2021 title. He finished with 16 wickets in the tournament – joint fourth-highest in the league.
