The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli became the quickest to reach 11,000 international runs as captain as India during the third and teh final T20I against Sri Lanka on Friday. Kohli needed just one run to reach the milestone and he took a single off Lakshan Sandakan to get there. He became the sixth international skipper to reach the mark and the second Indian after MS Dhoni.
Apart from Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, who played his first international series after a gap of four months, went past the record of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal to become the leading wicket-taker for India in T20Is on Friday. Bumrah dismissed Danushka Gunathilaka in the first over of Sri Lanka’s chase of 202 to take his wickets tally to 53 in the shortest format.

Before the start of the third T20I, there was a three-way tie between Bumrah, Ashwin and Chahal. Ashwin last played a T20I against the West Indies back in 2017 while Chahal, who was part of the playing XI in Pune, failed to get a wicket in India’s commanding 78-run win over the visitors.
The BCCI took to Twitter to congratulate the fast-bowler as they tweeted: “BOOOM. Jasprit Bumrah is now the leading wicket-taker in T20Is for #TeamIndia”.

India won the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka 2-0 after registering another dominating win by 78 runs in the third T20I on Friday.Â
However, the Indian skipper said that cricket is a team sport and he does not endorse the idea of “pitting people against each other” when asked about the competition between the Indian players. He said, “It’s all about a team game. I don’t endorse this idea of putting people in the team against each other.”

In the match, Sri Lanka captain Lasith Malinga invited India to bat on a flat pitch in Pune. The Indian openers, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul put on a 97-run partnership which helped India past 200. In reply, Sri Lanka lost four wickets in the powerplay and they were eventually bowled out for 123. Shardul Thakur was named player of the match for his all-round show while Navdeep Saini was adjudged player of the series.
