Rajasthan Royals (RR) were finally able to draw a good-looking squad in the Indian Premier League 2022 season with talented batters and an experienced bowling unit to cover most of the bases. They started the tournament on a solid note but lost their way in the middle. Nonetheless, they managed to get their form back in the latter half to seal the playoffs spot and emerged as runners-up. It was the most successful season for the franchise after the 2008 season, with a lot of positives and a few negatives as well.

There were some players, who did get enough chances in IPL 2022 to play in the playing XI and one of them is Jimmy Neesham.  New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has warmed the benches for most of his IPL career. After playing five matches in 2020 for Punjab, he came back in the subsequent edition to feature in a three-match for Mumbai Indians (MI).

In IPL 2022, RR trusted Neesham’s capabilities in the T20 format and availed his services. The talented Kiwi player could feature in only two games of the season and garnered only 31 runs, with a low enough strike rate. In both these games, he could not provide the much-needed flourish for the team in the final overs.

In the last few league matches and the playoffs of the tournament, RR trusted their XI to play with three frontline pacers and two spinners. With Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag already there as finishers, RR might opt to release Jimmy Neesham ahead of next year’s auction.

However, on Wednesday, Jimmy Neesham shared in opinion on ESPNCrinfo’s analysis on “Which player had the most forgettable match performance in #IPL2022”. On the post, he commented, “I really don’t understand why you guys do this kind of rubbish”.
