England’s premium batsman Joe Root has been declared fit for the One-Day International series opener against Australia, which will be played at Melbourne’s iconic stadium on Sunday. He fell down to viral illness on the fifth day of final Ashes Test in Sydney Cricket Ground.

Eoin Morgan, limited-over skipper of England, cleared the clouds over his availability on the eve of the match and said “Joe is good and should be fit to play tomorrow. He’s extremely important. He’s been a fantastic leader within the group and, on top of that, there’s the weight of runs he’s scored and the manner that he’s scored them.”

“He’s obviously a key part. He’s a very versatile player and can score in any strike-rate that needs to be required, given the situation,” he added.

England lost the Ashes series by 4-0, where Test skipper Root couldn’t pull off any miracle with his bat and only secured five half-centuries in his favor. However, he will try to turn things around in the limited-over cricket where his team has emerged as powerhouse since a horrible World Cup 2015 at the very same land.
