The Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a disappointing loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday night, which could significantly impact their hopes of finishing in the top two in IPL 2025. Several tactical blunders during the game have sparked debate among experts, with some questioning the decisions made by skipper Axar Patel and the team management.

One major point of contention has been the decision to leave out left-arm seamer T. Natarajan, one of DC’s big buys at the auction. Journalists have raised eyebrows over the omission, particularly since Natarajan is seen as a key player who could have made a difference. However, DC mentor Kevin Pietersen addressed these concerns, explaining that with only 12 players available to play, it’s a matter of balancing the squad.

“We can only play 12 players, one being an impact player. And if you can tell me where he fits in at the moment, you would help us,” Kevin Pietersen said during the post-match press conference. “One thing I can say about Natarajan is that he’s doing everything that he’s been asked to do, as are all of our players.”

Keavin Pietersen also highlighted the strength of the squad, noting that those not playing are still highly motivated and ready for their opportunity. “What’s been so impressive about our setup is how good the guys are that are not playing. They know their chance is coming soon,” he added.

Currently, DC sits fourth on the points table with six wins and three losses in nine matches. They will look to bounce back when they face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday, April 29, at the same venue.
