KL Rahul is once again making headlines as he finds himself back in the reckoning for India’s T20I squad, with strong indications that he could be named in the team for the upcoming Bangladesh series in August. After a long absence from the shortest format, Rahul’s stellar IPL 2025 season with Delhi Capitals has seemingly reignited the selectors’ interest.
In 11 innings, the stylish right-hander has amassed 493 runs at a strike rate of 148.04, including a century and three fifties — numbers that speak volumes about his current form. KL Rahul last played a T20I in November 2022 during India’s T20 World Cup semi-final loss to England, where he managed just 5 runs off 5 balls. His overall performance in that tournament — 128 runs at a strike rate of 120.75 — led to his exclusion from the T20I setup.

However, as per a report in The Times of India, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is considering a comeback for Rahul in the T20I format, as India prepares for a three-match T20I and ODI series in Bangladesh.

A seasoned T20I campaigner, Rahul has scored 2,265 runs in 72 matches at a strike rate of 139.12, with two centuries and 22 fifties. He recently lit up the Arun Jaitley Stadium with an unbeaten 112 off 65 balls against Gujarat Titans — a knock that also saw him cross the 8,000-run mark in T20 cricket, becoming the fastest Indian to achieve the milestone.

India will host the T20 World Cup next year, and Rahul, who missed out on the 2024 title-winning squad led by Rohit Sharma, now has a golden opportunity to make his way back.
