When MS Dhoni declared his intention to return and play another season of the IPL as a “gift” for the fans, he knew it would be a challenging decision. Shortly after leading the Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL victory against the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final, it was revealed that Dhoni had undergone knee surgery. Throughout the 16th edition of the IPL, it was no secret that Dhoni was battling a knee injury. His walking gait, occasional limping, and reluctance to go for quick doubles were all indicators of the injury’s magnitude.
Following the final, Dhoni flew from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, where he consulted renowned sports orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who is also on the BCCI medical panel and has performed surgeries on several top Indian cricketers, including Rishabh Pant.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that Dhoni had a successful knee surgery at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital on Thursday. While he did not have specific details about the nature of the surgery, he mentioned that Dhoni was doing well and the procedure took place in the morning.
