When MS Dhoni declared his intention to return and play another season of the IPL as a “gift” for the fans, he knew it would be a challenging decision. Shortly after leading the Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL victory against the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final, it was revealed that Dhoni had undergone knee surgery. Throughout the 16th edition of the IPL, it was no secret that Dhoni was battling a knee injury. His walking gait, occasional limping, and reluctance to go for quick doubles were all indicators of the injury’s magnitude.
Following the final, Dhoni flew from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, where he consulted renowned sports orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who is also on the BCCI medical panel and has performed surgeries on several top Indian cricketers, including Rishabh Pant.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that Dhoni had a successful knee surgery at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital on Thursday. While he did not have specific details about the nature of the surgery, he mentioned that Dhoni was doing well and the procedure took place in the morning.
Reacting to the news of Dhoni’s knee surgery, former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, known for being a fervent CSK fan, praised the legendary captain for his determination and resilience. Sivaramakrishnan referred to Dhoni as a “warrior” and acknowledged that he played the entire season on “one leg,” yet his pain did not compromise his clarity of thought.

MS Dhoni has already been discharged from the hospital after undergoing successful arthroscopic repair through keyhole surgery. According to a source close to the CSK management, he has returned to Ranchi and will rest for a few days at home before embarking on an extensive rehabilitation program.
The expectation is that he will have ample time to regain fitness for the next IPL season. The surgery marks another testament to Dhoni’s unwavering dedication and resilience, further solidifying his reputation as a champion for life.
