Former India international player turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar shares his thoughts on Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Sanjay suggests how the team representing Mumbai is now looking like a better team than CSK in the recent past.
Statics agree with Manjrekar as Mumbai Indians have an upper hand on Chennai Super Kings in overall had to head matches. Both the teams have faced each other in 30 encounters, wherein Mumbai Indian has emerged victorious in 18 matches while CSK won 12 of them
The team from the Western part of India has also surpassed the team from Southern India in the number of IPL titles won. Mumbai Indians are now the most successful team in the history of IPL winning the title 4 times compared to CSK’s three titles in the 12-year history of the tournament. Mumbai Indians achieved the feat last year when the won the title in a nail-biting encounter against the same MS Dhoni-led counterparts in Hyderabad.

“The IPL has been going on for about 12 years, and when we look at winning percentage, which is a good way of looking at teams, a good winning record, CSK is right up there, but of late, there’s been a surge by Mumbai Indians coming through the ranks, winning titles as well,” Manjrekar said.
He continued with, “Mumbai Indians have won four, CSK has won three but they have played less IPL. When you look at that, Mumbai Indians is emerging as a team that is threatening CSK in the last few years, they have actually been the better team than CSK, a couple of IPL titles to MI.”
Comparing the experience of both the team’s performance in the finals, we understand that while CSK has been qualified for the IPL finals eight times in their history out of the 12 years of the tournament, They have managed to win only 3 out of the 8 times finishing as runners up the other 5 times. Mumbai Indians have a better success ratio in the finals as the latter has participated in five finals, winning four of them.

“When MI come to the final, they tend to win it, CSK not as much. When you look at the entire IPL, CSK go first, but of late, maybe Mumbai Indians have a slight edge,” he said.
The 13th season of IPL was scheduled to commence from 29th March in Mumbai, however, it was postponed to 15 April due to the pandemic outbreak of Corona Virus across the globe.
