During the first match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai, Mayank Markande foxed Mahendra Singh Dhoni as Chennai Super Kings further lost their way in the chase.
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Mumbai Indians scored 165-4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. A chase which looked easy on paper for the Super Kings didn’t seem to be the same as the visiting batsmen went back to the pavilion in quick succession.
To the likes of a plethora of Indians, Dhoni came in to bat at No. 5 in the seventh over when Ambati Rayudu (22) was dismissed by Markande in his first over. In his next over, Markande saw the better of Dhoni as the former Indian skipper failed to read his googly. The other mistake which Dhoni made was failing to read the length of the delivery.
Umpire Chris Gaffaney did not rule Dhoni out on the field. It was at this point in time that Rohit Sharma called for a review. Replays suggested that the ball was clearly hitting the stumps. The umpire had to change his decision and resultant of which, Dhoni walked back on 5 (5).
His downfall saw the Super Kings being reduced to 4-51 in the ninth over. Watch his dismissal:
