Mitchell Marsh was cruelly denied a well-deserved century after suffering an unfortunate run out during Lucknow Super Giants’s IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium on Friday. The Australian opener looked unstoppable throughout his innings and appeared set to complete one of the finest hundreds of the season before luck turned against him at the non-striker’s end.

Marsh was batting on a sensational 90 off just 38 balls when the dramatic dismissal took place on the final delivery of the 10th over. Mukesh Choudhary bowled a full delivery outside off stump to Nicholas Pooran, who drove the ball firmly straight back towards the bowler. Mukesh reacted instinctively in his follow-through and managed to get a hand on the ball.

The slight deflection proved decisive as the ball ricocheted directly onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Marsh, who had backed up too far while anticipating a quick run, was caught well short of his crease. The Australian batter immediately realised what had happened and started walking back even before the umpire officially confirmed the dismissal.

It brought a heartbreaking end to a breathtaking innings that had completely shifted the momentum in Lucknow’s favour.
