Mohammad Azharuddin Picks All-rounders For India’s T20 WC Squad

Former Indian skipper, Mohammad Azharuddin recently picked five all-rounders who will be expected to be selected in the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022 mega-events. India will participate in the two mega T20 events later this year, with multiple opponents waiting for them. According to Azharuddin, the selectors may include two spin-bowling all-rounders and three pace-bowling all-rounders in the squad.

During a discussion with CricTracker, Mohammad Azharuddin had opined that the players who could fit into the Indian squad as all-rounders for upcoming mega-events. Giving the names of those five cricketers, Mohammad scalped Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as the two spin-bowling options, while Hardik Pandya, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur can be the pace-bowling options.

Explaining his point of view, Mohammad Azharuddin said, “When you Hardik into your side, you want an all-rounder of his caliber, but is certainly on the back foot with his injury. Along with them, I feel Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur should be there on the team. If talked about spinners, I will choose Ashwin and Jadeja due to their experience.”

Explaining the reason behind picking R Ashwin in the all-rounders’ section, Mohammad Azharuddin pointed out that the off-spinner has been doing well for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2022. So, Azhar wants him in the squad owing to his experience.

The other options available for spin-bowling all-rounders were Axar Patel, Rahul Tewatia, and Washington Sundar. However, Mohammad Azharuddin ignored all of them and went with the tried and tested duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who also played for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
