On May 26, 2013, In front of a Jam-packed Eden Gardens Mumbai Indians triumphed over 2-time winners Chennai Super Kings to lift their maiden title with a 23-run win.
Winning the toss, Rohit Sharma decided to bat first and pressurize the CSK team with a top score on board. However things didn’t go as planned for the Mumbai as the top order faltered heavily. Opener Dwayne Smith was sent back into the hut in4th ball of the innings.
Aditya Tare soon followed Smith back into the dressing room. Captaining the team, Rohit Sharma had a bad outing as he was given the marching orders after scoring 2 off 5 balls. Mumbai Indians were languishing at 16-3 with just 20 balls bowled.

A Kieron Pollard special saved Mumbai Indians from some embarrassment after the T20 specialist walked onto the crease. The West Indian allrounder smacked a spectacular unbeaten 60 off just 32 deliveries helping Mumbai’s scoreboard read 148 for 9 at the end of their innings.
With a competitive target on board, CSK’s batting line-up failed to see off the new ball. The batting order crumbled like a piece of paper as the Mumbai attack spit fireballs towards the CSK batsman.
Malinga dismissed CSK opener, Mike Hussey on the 4th ball of the CSK innings. Suresh Raina and Subramaniam Badrinath also fell cheaply. Both the CSK batsman were undone by Johnson and Malinga as they were dismissed without troubling the scorers. The MSD lead team was blown away by the sheer ferocity of Lasith Malinga and Mitchell Johnson as CSK were 3 men down inside the first 2 overs of the game.

With the scoreboard reading 39-6 inside 8 overs, the match seemed to be firms placed in Mumbai hands. However CSK skipper Dhoni played a warrior innings trying to bring the game back into CSK’s favor. He was the only shining star for the CSK team as the captain fought fiercely from one end. Dhoni’s knock of a 65 ball 83 came in vain as CSK could only manage 125 from the 20 overs.
