Since its inauguration in 2008, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has evolved as a mass festival of the country. The tournament has already run for 11 consecutive editions and it is almost set to begin its 12th consecutive edition which is expected to be played between mid-March and mid-May 2019.

Lasith Malinga (Mumbai Indians)
In IPL history, the Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga is totally attached with Mumbai Indians (MI). Earlier, the right-arm pacer played for MI from 2008 to 2017. Playing a total of 127 matches for MI, Malinga has picked up 179 wickets for MI with an average of 18.64. Malinga is the most wicket-taker in IPL history (154 wickets). He was the Purple cap winner in IPL 2011 where he bagged 28 wickets.
In that long stint, MI won three IPL trophies (2013, 2015 and 2017) and 2011 Champions League T20 trophies (Malinga didn’t participate in the 2013 CL T20).
In IPL 2018, Malinga joined the team but as the bowling mentor. This time, MI just missed reaching the play-offs spot as they finished the tournament as the fifth-placed team.

Malinga is now ready to return as the MI player once again in the upcoming IPL 2019 as he was bought by MI for INR 2 crore in the IPL 2019 Auction.
