Earlier, former Australian Skipper Ricky Ponting was the mentor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians for two editions, might be seen in the Delhi Daredevils franchise in the next season.

For quite a while now, the Delhi based franchise has failed to prove their worth in the cash-rich T20 league. It was way back in 2012 that the Daredevils had made it to the IPL play-offs. A change in the dugout might do the job for them and revive the team’s fortune.

According to a report in TOI, Ricky Ponting is expected to be signed up by the Daredevils. Making a return to the IPL after serving a two-year termination, the Rajasthan Royals franchise is also looking to go for the former Aussie skipper Ponting might prefer the inaugural IPL winner as well. One of their sources said, “Ponting is most likely to be signed up by the Daredevils as their next coach. However, apart from the Daredevils, he’s also being wooed by the Rajasthan Royals.”

For a short period in 2017, Ponting also joined the Australian coaching staff for the Sri Lanka series. The three-time World Cup-winner was also helpful in mentoring and directing players such as Jos Buttler and Krunal Pandya.
