Prasidh Krishna believes Shubman Gill did an admirable job in his first outing as Test captain, despite India’s five-wicket defeat to England in the first Test at Headingley. Gill, who replaced Rohit Sharma as skipper, scored a century in his debut innings as captain. However, he faced criticism for his handling of the bowling unit, with many feeling India allowed England’s batters to settle too easily in both innings.

Speaking to reporters, Prasidh came out in support of Gill, highlighting how the young captain kept communication channels open and ensured bowlers got timely breaks.
“About Shubman—yeah, I think he did a pretty good job. We saw how he rotated the bowlers, made sure everyone got enough rest, and brought them back at the right times. He identified opportunities and used the right bowlers accordingly. And knowing him, he created a very positive atmosphere around the team,” Prasidh Krishna said, as quoted by The Times of India.

The fast bowler also praised Gill’s vocal leadership, pointing out that the skipper regularly speaks to the team and ensures clarity in plans. After the Indian tail disappointed with the bat—managing just nine runs across both innings—Prasidh said the lower order is putting in the effort to improve ahead of the second Test.

“He’s been speaking to all of us. We always have a plan, and the communication is there. As lower-order batsmen, we’re definitely working hard. If you see our net sessions, we are putting in the work. It’s also about trusting yourself, backing your skills, and spending more time at the crease. The runs will come, and we’re working towards that,” Prasidh Krishna explained.

The pacer also dismissed any talk of unrest in the dressing room, insisting the camp remains positive despite the loss. “The dressing room is still positive, happy, and motivated. We knew what this opportunity meant for us. Even during the game, it might have seemed quiet at times, but there was always a plan,” he added.
India will look to bounce back when they face England in the second Test at Edgbaston, starting July 2.
