There were speculations that Arjun Kapoor, but all such rumors neglected when the producer of the film Vikramaditya Motwane, who has directed films like Udaan and Lootera has revealed the news.
Speaking exclusively to Sportswallah, Motwane said, “Ranveer was always the first choice to play Kapil Dev. All those rumors were just, as you see now, rumors. It was all Madhu Mantena’s idea. He is the brainchild behind it. It was his idea to make a film on the famous win in 1983.”
It is for sure that the film will be made but it will take a time of one and a half years to see the journey of the famous win on screen. Motwane said, “I am very excited. Kabir Khan is the director, our company Phantom is backing it and we have Ranveer on board now and I think everything is going very well. Nothing is decided on who is playing the other roles as yet.”
Speaking of the memories of the India’s World Cup win, Motwane said, “I was too small when they won the World Cup 1983. There is no defining moment of the tournament. But what happened after 1985 when we Pakistan in World Championship.and then in 1987 World Cup. These are things with which we grew up. Suddenly, cricket had become so big. We saw the game become a religion in front of our eyes.”
