Indian coach Ravi Shastri was in high praises of pacer Jasprit Bumrah after India’s narrow win over New Zealand in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

Bumrah was in splendid form and bowled an economical spell of 2/9 in allotted two overs and helped his team to win by six runs. After winning the ODI series, India claimed the T20 International series as well by 2-1.

“Outstanding temperament from Bumrah. He’s shown he’s got all the tools of the trade. But importantly, what he’s shown that he’s a thinking bowler,” said Shastri.

The rain curtailed the encounter to 8-over a side on a damp pitch, where batsmen failed to explode. However, India scored 67/5 and restricted New Zealand to 61/6 and pulled a nail-biter match in their favor.

Shastri further added “You’ll be lying if you say you aren’t tense. Such games can change in the matter of 2-3 balls. Boys saved the best for last in terms of fielding. There was electricity on the field. We thought we could defend it.”

“After we lost a couple of wickets, our aim was to get 65. By no means it’s a match-winning score, but if you field well and start well, the pressure is on the opposition,” he concluded.

Sri Lanka is India’s next opponent for rest of this year, where both teams will play three match series of Test, ODI and T20I.
