Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has been docked 30 per cent of his match fee for showing dissent towards an umpiring decision during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 fixture between the Dindigul Dragons and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, held on June 8 at Coimbatore’s SNR College Ground.

According to TNPL officials, Ashwin was fined 10 per cent for displaying dissent and an additional 20 per cent for misuse of equipment after his dismissal. The match referee conducted a hearing after the game, where the Dindigul Dragons skipper accepted the penalty without contesting the decision.

The incident unfolded during the fifth over of Dindigul’s innings. Ashwin, who was opening the batting, attempted a sweep against opposition skipper R Sai Kishore. The ball struck his pads, and umpire Kritika adjudged him LBW. Ashwin immediately showed frustration, seemingly convinced the ball had pitched outside leg stump.

Unfortunately for him, both of Dindigul’s reviews had already been exhausted on earlier wide-ball appeals, leaving no room for a referral. As he walked back to the pavilion after scoring 18, Ashwin struck his pads with the bat in frustration and flung his gloves, actions that drew the equipment misuse fine.

Ashwin’s dismissal triggered a collapse for Dindigul, who lost their final nine wickets for just 54 runs, eventually folding for 93. Tiruppur’s bowlers—Esakkimuthu A (4 wickets), M Mathivannan (3), and Sai Kishore (2)—dominated proceedings. In response, Tiruppur chased down the modest target in just 11.5 overs. Tushar Raheja led the way with a blistering unbeaten 65 off 39 balls, securing a convincing nine-wicket win and their first victory of the season.
