Rohit changed his footwork and adapted a more positive intent against the likes of Tim Southee, Hamish Bennett, and Scott Kuggeleijn to take India to a flying start in Hamilton. While India lost KL Rahul (27) in the process at the other end, Rohit went on to surpass a staggering record by becoming only the fourth Indian opener with 10,000-plus runs in international cricket at the top of the batting order.

Team India has taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match T20I series at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. India defeated the host in a humdinger of a match that went into the super over as the men in blue chased down 18 runs owing to the brilliance of Rohit Sharma. Earlier, the New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to field first.

For his priceless contribution with the willow throughout the game, Rohit received the Man of the Match award. After receiving the award he conceded that he had never played a super over before this match, and hence didn’t know how to approach the innings.

During the post-match presentation, Rohit said, “Never batted in a Super Over before. I didn’t know what to expect, whether to go from the first ball or take a single and see what I can do. It was a good performance, although I’m a little disappointed with the way I got out, I wanted to carry on for a while longer. We knew that if we won this game, we would win this series. It was important for the important members of the side to step up today.”

The two sides move on to Wellington for the fourth T20I. New Zealand will look to earn some pride before the Test and ODI series while the Men in Blue have the opportunity to test their bench strength.
