India’s limited-overs skipper, Rohit Sharma slammed the reporters regarding the questions on the batting form of Virat Kohli. He feels that the media is scrutinizing the batting star without a reason. On the eve of the T20I series against the West Indies, Rohit reiterated that the team management doesn’t have any issues with Kohli, who scored just 26 runs over 3 ODIs against the West Indies earlier this month. However, he had begun the year well with two fifties in South Africa.

As per the quest in India Today, during a recent media interaction, Rohit Sharm said, “I think it all starts with you guys (the media). If talking from your side stops, everything will be taken care of. He is in a very good space from what I can see and he has been part of the international team for more than a decade.”

He further added, “He has spent so much time in international cricket that he knows how to handle pressure situations. So I think everything starts with you guys. If you guys can keep it quiet for a bit everything will fall in place.”

Rohit’s sharp reaction comes only days after he stressed that there is nothing wrong with the confidence of Virat Kohli even as he is not able to get the big scores as he was regularly a couple of seasons back.

After the ODI series, Rohit Sharma said, “Does Virat Kohli need more confidence? (laughs). If Kohli is in need of confidence, then who in the team is confident? I know he has not scored a hundred for long but he is getting fifties. Even in South Africa, he hit 2 fifties in 3 matches.”

It will be interesting to see how Virat Kohli approaches his T20I innings against the West Indies, considering he will be playing as just a player after a gap of 4 years. Kohli stepped down as captain of the T20I side after the World Cup last year and did not take part in the home series against the West Indies.

Kohli has been criticized in the recent past for taking a lot of time to get going in the shortest format of the game but his number game is quite strong. In 2021, Kohli played 10 T20is, amassing 290 runs with 4 fifties at an average of over 74. After winning the ODI series 3-0, India will be locking horns with West Indies in 3 T20Is at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata from February 16 to 20.
