India opening batsman Shubman Gill got a standing ovation from Sara Tendulkar, daughter of legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, for his brilliant knock of 92 runs against Sri Lanka in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Gill had been in red-hot form in 2023, but he had not looked at his very best in the World Cup. He had missed a few matches in the competition with dengue, before returning and registering scores of 16, 53, 26, and 9 in four matches.
However, he brought out his best in the match against Sri Lanka and played a wonderful knock. Gill lost his opening partner Rohit Sharma in the first over itself, but he stayed confident and built a stunning partnership with Virat Kohli. Gill and Kohli added 189 runs in 179 balls before the dismissal of the former in the 30th over.
