Punjab Kings (PBKS) stormed into their first IPL final in over a decade, and the man leading the charge was none other than their skipper, Shreyas Iyer. On a high-stakes night at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Iyer delivered one of the finest innings of his IPL career, smashing an unbeaten 87 off just 41 deliveries to steer PBKS past Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2.

His knock, studded with five fours and eight towering sixes, orchestrated the highest-ever successful run chase against MI in IPL history, setting up a blockbuster final clash with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. But what should’ve been a night of unfiltered celebration took a dramatic turn post-match.

Shreyas Iyer, visibly furious, lashed out at teammate Shashank Singh during the handshake sequence, a moment captured on camera and quickly viral across social media. The clip showed Iyer hurling abuse and coldly ignoring Shashank, leaving fans stunned.

The source of Iyer’s frustration stemmed from a costly moment in the 17th over of the chase. PBKS needed 35 runs off 21 balls with six wickets in hand—a position of relative comfort.
However, Shashank, having just arrived at the crease, played a casual single to mid-on off a low full toss from Trent Boult. Hardik Pandya’s sharp direct hit at the non-striker’s end caught Shashank well short. Replays showed the 33-year-old had jogged rather than sprinted, and by the time he accelerated, it was too late. He departed for just 2 off 3 balls.

The lapse in judgment gave Mumbai Indians a glimmer of hope, especially with Jasprit Bumrah still in the mix. Yet, Iyer stood firm under pressure, shielding the chase with calm aggression. By doing so, he not only took PBKS to the final but also etched his name in history as the first captain to guide three different franchises to an IPL final.
