Ahead of the 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the young Indian batter, Shubman Gill was released by his old franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Shubman has broken his silence on the matter of separation from KKR for the first time. Gill believes that it is good that the Kolkata-based franchises decided to release him. Due to this decision of KKR, Gill got a chance to become the IPL winner.
Justifying his decision to join Gujarat Titans, as per the quotes in ABP, Shubman Gill said, “I am happy that KKR decided not to retain me. Because of him, I decided to join Gujarat Titans. And that’s why in the end we managed to become IPL winners.”
Shubman Gill was in the KKR squad for about four years. After the 2018 Under 19 World Cup, the youngster came into the limelight and was signed by the KKR team. However, in the last four years, KKR’s team hasn’t been able to grab the IPL title.
KKR decided to make major changes before the commencement of the 15th season of the IPL and they decided not to retain Shubman Gill. The new franchise Gujarat Titans had already signed Shubman along with Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan ahead of the mega auction.
After featuring in the champion side of the Gujarat Titans, the youngster got a chance to return to international cricket as well earlier last month. He performed well as an opener in the three-match ODI series against West Indies. On the Zimbabwe tour also, Gill will get a chance to play for Team India at number three.
