Shubman Gill found himself in the middle of a rare outburst during Gujarat Titans’ clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday, May 2. The incident unfolded in the 14th over of SRH’s chase, when Prasidh Krishna delivered a sharp yorker that struck Abhishek Sharma on the pads.

The GT fielders went up in a loud LBW appeal, convinced they had their man. However, the on-field umpire ruled it not out, leading to a prompt review from the bowling side. The DRS replay stirred controversy. It showed that the ball had pitched outside leg stump—though the tracking didn’t display this clearly—and while the impact was “umpire’s call” and the ball was hitting the stumps, the original decision stood.

The review wasn’t lost, but what irked Gill was an apparent glitch in the ball-tracking system, which failed to show where the delivery had pitched. Visibly agitated, Shubman Gill stormed up to the umpires and voiced his displeasure in a heated manner.

Animated hand gestures and sharp words followed, prompting the officials to confer before trying to explain the situation. Yet the GT captain wasn’t satisfied. It took Abhishek Sharma himself to step in and calm things down, highlighting the tense nature of the moment.

At that stage, SRH were 139/3 after 15 overs, needing 86 runs from the final five. Heinrich Klaasen and youngster Aniket Verma were holding the fort for the visitors.

Earlier, Gujarat Titans had posted a formidable 224/6 after being put in to bat. Skipper Shubman Gill led from the front with a blistering 76 off 38, while Jos Buttler also notched up a vital half-century to keep GT’s hopes alive. The drama only added spice to an already electric contest in the closing stages of IPL 2025’s league phase.
