After a gripping encounter in Match 52 of IPL 2025 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming was full of praise for rising star Ayush Mhatre. The 17-year-old opener made heads turn with a sublime 94 off 48 deliveries, displaying poise and flair far beyond his years.

Fleming lauded Mhatre’s ability to thrive under pressure and execute his plans on a grand stage. “He’s got talent. He’s got hand-eye coordination. He’s got a beautiful, silky swing. He’s aggressive. Everything we like about a modern-day T20 batter. But what stood out most was his temperament,” Stephen Fleming said after the match, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The former New Zealand captain emphasised that while Mhatre’s shot-making was impressive, it was his composure and clarity in the middle that truly set him apart.

“It’s one thing to have a lot of shots, but executing them against the best in front of a packed stadium is a different challenge. That’s where he impressed me the most,” Stephen Fleming added.

Fleming also acknowledged that it’s still early in Mhatre’s career, but noted that his talent was evident right from the trial phase. “There’s a certain quality about what he does. Sometimes it’s hard to put into words, but we saw it from day one.”
