The Indian Test skipper, Virat Kohli led the team across the formats for more than 4 years and it was not an easy job to lead a world-class team and manage his own workload as well. Despite leading the team in all the formats, he never let it affect his batting, but he failed to lead the team to win an ICC event. Nonetheless, India kept performing well in overseas conditions. Meanwhile, the ongoing captaincy row at the Indian cricket camp stirred massive outrage.

The communication gap between Virat Kohli and the BCCI seems to be pretty evident, given the way things are panning out in recent times. Virat Kohli stepped down as T20I captain post the Twenty20 World Cup in UAE and Oman. His decision to step down as the captain in the shortest format was well received by the BCCI.

Last week, the Indian selection committee decided to have only one white-ball captain and as a result, Virat Kohli was sacked from ODI captaincy and the board appointed Rohit Sharm as captain in ODIs and T20Is. However, legendary Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar blamed Virat Kohli’s old statement for his sacking as ODI captain.

During a recent chat with India Today, Sunil Gavaskar said, “I think I also saw the release(by kohli) because it was in public domain. I think you know the way it was put across, it might have upset the ones in power. If I remember correctly it said- I will continue to lead India in Test and ODIs.”

A part of Virat Kohli’s earlier release read: “I feel i need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian Team in Test and ODI cricket.”
