Chennai Super Kings (CSK) appear to be in the early stages of reshaping their setup ahead of the next IPL season, and Suresh Raina has dropped a major hint that a change in the batting coach position could be on the cards. While on commentary during CSK’s final league match of IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, Raina revealed that the franchise is exploring options to bring in a new batting coach, possibly replacing Michael Hussey.

The moment quickly turned speculative when fellow commentator Aakash Chopra prodded Raina for more information. “Does his name start with ‘S’?” Chopra asked, to which Raina coyly responded, “He has made the fastest fifty,” sending fans into a frenzy. Chopra cheekily concluded, “Chalo ho gaya bhai, you heard it first here,” suggesting that a change is indeed imminent.
Interestingly, Suresh Raina himself holds the record for the fastest fifty by a CSK batter—reaching the mark in just 16 balls during the 2014 season—adding further intrigue to his comment.

When CSK assistant bowling coach Sridharan Sriram was asked about Raina’s remarks, he responded with a smile, “I don’t know. I have to ask him if he said that,” during his post-match media appearance.

CSK’s season has been a forgettable one by their lofty standards. The five-time champions finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in franchise history, managing just four wins from 14 matches. This marked their second consecutive year missing out on the playoffs.

Their auction strategy also came under scrutiny, especially as injury replacements like Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Patel, and Dewald Brevis delivered solid performances. However, Sriram defended the team’s decisions, stating, “These were forced changes due to injuries. Thankfully, the players who came in did well. I wouldn’t say we erred at the auction table.”
