The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to begin on June 14. As expected, Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the side, while Smriti Mandhana has been appointed vice-captain, continuing the leadership core that has guided the team in recent years.

However, the squad announcement comes with a significant setback. Star all-rounder Amanjot Kaur has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Her absence leaves a noticeable gap in both departments, given her ability to contribute with bat and ball in crucial phases. Captain Harmanpreet confirmed that Amanjot is expected to be out of action for the next three to four months, making her unavailable for the marquee event.
India will begin their campaign with a high-voltage clash against arch-rivals Pakistan women’s national cricket team on the opening day. Group A also features strong contenders like the Australia women’s national cricket team, the South Africa women’s national cricket team, the Bangladesh women’s national cricket team, and the Netherlands women’s national cricket team, making it one of the most competitive groups in the tournament.

Heading into the World Cup, India will have a crucial preparatory phase with a three-match T20I series against England women’s national cricket team. The same squad is expected to feature in that series, giving the team a valuable opportunity to fine-tune combinations and regain momentum.
