English head-coach Trevor Bayliss believes that the English all-rounder Ben Stokes will issue a public apology soon for his action in the brawl incident outside a Bristol nightclub last September.

While Stokes was one of the heroes in the first Test of ongoing five-match Test series between the hosts England and the visitors India at Edgbaston (Birmingham) that England snatched a thrilling victory, the all-rounder missed the second Test at Lord’s (London) due to facing the trial of that brawl incident.

The 27-year-old English all-rounder has been added to the squad for the upcoming third Test at Trent Bridge (Nottingham), starting from this Saturday (August 18), after he has been found not guilty in that brawl incident in the latest verdict at Bristol Crown Court.

Earlier, the all-rounder had missed the international cricket for almost five months since the September incident, including missing in the 2017/18 Ashes Series in Australia that Australia won by the 4-0 margin.

Bayliss addressed to the media, “When he came out to New Zealand after the Ashes tour that he missed, he addressed the players in the changing room when he first arrived. So from our point of view, his contrition was evident for the boys in the team. I think it was important to actually apologise to the boys in the team, management of the team and management at the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board), who had to go through a lot of extra activities to work our way through it.”

When the coach was asked whether the all-rounder would issue a public apology for his action, Bayliss stated, “I’m sure something will be forthcoming. That’ll be up to Ben and his management team, I suppose.”

While India is currently trailing the five-match Test series by 2-0 after the second Test, Indian captain Virat Kohli is suffering from the back pain. However, Bayliss believes Kohli could be a more dangerous player with the injury in the upcoming third Test at Trent Bridge.

The English coach said about Indian captain’s fitness, “It could mean he’s more of a dangerous player. Through history there are a lot of players who have played with an injury and scored runs and taken wickets. I don’t know if that focuses the mind more but I have just seen him take some slip catches without any problems, so I’m sure he’ll be playing. That won’t change our approach to the way we play him.”

Talking about the upcoming Trent Bridge Test, Bayliss expected the similar condition as Lord’s Test.

The English coach said, “I haven’t been out there but normally there is a bit of swing around. We’re looking forward to it being the same as Lord’s. That would be nice.”
