Australia’s quest towards victory on Day 4 of the first Test against South Africa represented top-notch cricket. However, what grabbed a lot of eyeballs of the on-field audience as well as internet users was Australian off-spinner, Nathan Lyon’s attitude towards AB de Villers, after latter’s run-out.

AB de Villiers was run-out for a golden duck after some fine work from David Warner and Lyon. However, what followed immediately after he was run-out, is something that is described as an act of lack of sportsmanship and shameful by many users on Twitter. Lyon, after knocking over the stumps to run-out De Villiers, was caught dropping the ball on the batsman as he ran to celebrate with his teammates.

Upon looking closely at the video footage, one can clearly come to a conclusion that the act was intentional. This is looked upon as yet another example of how Australian cricketers like Warner and Lyon end up crossing their boundaries under the pretense of “playing tough cricket.”

Here are some of the reactions on Twitter:

One of the Australian fans called Nathan Lyon’s behavior as disrespectful, he tweeted, “Very disrespectful of Nathan Lyon to drop the ball on de Villiers like he dd #SAvAUS”.

Another Australian fan gave a sarcastic judgment to the turn of events, he tweeted, “Nathan Lyon showing some real class dropping the ball on AB after running him out. Not to mention the send-off from Warner. Seems like a nice bunch of guys #SSCricket #SAvsAUS”.
