It was the Cape Town ODI between South Africa and India on 7 February where the Indian skipper Virat Kohli played one of his finest ODI innings. After South Africa sent the visiting side India to bat first, the opener Rohit Sharma lost his wicket in the very first over without opening his account.

After that, the other opener Shikhar Dhawan had a 140-run partnership with the skipper Kohli for the second wicket. Once Dhawan (76 runs) was dismissed, India was losing their wickets in regular intervals but Kohli stood still in the crease and carried that innings in a great way.

Since Dhawan’s dismissal, none of the Indian batsmen reached the 20-run mark but Kohli played enough lengthy innings of unbeaten 160 runs in 159 balls (12 fours and 2 sixes). In the tough slog-over situation, Kohli had an unbroken 67-run partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the seventh wicket that helped the visitors to score 303/6 (50 overs). Kumar (16* off 19 balls) only secured his wicket in that partnership while Kohli took the responsibility to add more runs on the scoreboard.

In reply, South Africa was bundled out for just 179 runs as India won by 124 runs and Kohli won the Player of the Match award.
