2. Jason Roy (England) 180 – against Australia at Melbourne
On 14 January, English opening batsman Jason Roy played a record-breaking ODI knock for his country to secure a comfortable victory at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Chasing down the 305 runs target against the hosts Australia, England did not have a good start as they lost their first two wickets in 60 runs on the board.
After that, the English opener Jason Roy had an unforgettable 221-run partnership with Joe Root for the third wicket. Before getting out, Roy played a magnificent knock of 180 runs off 151 balls (16 fours and 5 sixes) and it is the highest ODI knock by an England batsman after breaking the 171-run knock record of Alex Hales (at Nottingham on 30 August 2016).
His knock helped the English team to chase that big target comfortably as England reached that target in 48.5 overs after losing five wickets. Root remained unbeaten on 91 runs off 110 balls. While England won that game by 5 wickets with 7 balls to spare, Roy won the Player of the Match award.
