Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are off to a blazing start in their clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After GT captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first, the GT bowlers struggled to make an impact, failing to secure early breakthroughs.

Opening batsman Rachin Ravindra set the tone for CSK, delivering a scintillating performance. He partnered with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, forming a formidable 62-run stand in just 30 balls before falling victim to Rashid Khan’s delivery. Ravindra’s explosive innings saw him smash 46 runs off just 20 balls, featuring six boundaries and three sixes.

Following his dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane joined Gaikwad in the crease, and the duo found themselves at the center of an unusual incident. They managed to run four runs off a single delivery due to a fielding blunder by GT.

The incident occurred in the 9th over when Rahane struck Sai Kishore’s delivery towards deep mid-wicket. Despite the efforts of David Miller and Vijay Shankar, miscommunication between the fielders allowed the ball to pass through them. By the time Shankar retrieved the ball and attempted to throw it, the batsmen had completed four runs.

Interestingly, both CSK and GT have embarked on the IPL 2024 season with new captains at the helm. Ruturaj Gaikwad leads CSK, while Shubman Gill captains GT, marking their maiden stints as IPL team captains.

Both Gaikwad and Gill have made promising starts to their captaincy tenures. Gaikwad guided CSK to a commanding six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru, while Gill’s leadership steered GT to a hard-fought six-run win over Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL champions.

At the time of reporting, CSK had reached 124 for 2 in the 12th over, with Rahane departing after a steady knock of 12 runs, paving the way for Shivam Dube to join Gaikwad in the middle.
