Virat Kohli Justifies Sanju Samson Coming To Bat In Super-Over

The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli has justified allowing Sanju Samson to bat after KL Rahul in the super over in the fourth T20I against New Zealand at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. For the second game in a row in the ongoing series, the match was decided by the super over as the hosts choked again in the final over of the regular play again.

Once again, New Zealand was in commanding position and failed to went past the winning line. Chasing 166, New Zealand needed only seven runs with well set Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor batting. But somehow, New Zealand failed to score the required runs as they lost four wickets in the over and failed to score 2 runs off the final ball.

On the first ball of the final over, Taylor was dismissed by Shardul Thakur when they required seven to win. And once again it was a repeat of Hamilton T20I. Daryl Mitchell and Seifert were dismissed in the matter of next three balls and they needed 2 runs on the last ball. Mitchell Santner only managed to pick a single and the game yet again went into the super over with New Zealand finishing on 165/7 after 20 overs.

In the Super Over, Jasprit Bumrah took the ball and went on to concede 13 runs which gave the Kiwis some hope. However, KL Rahul smashed 10 runs in the first two balls and the equation comes down to four runs from three balls. However, Virat came on strike and made sure won it for India in the super over to take a 4-0 lead in the series.

After the game, Virat explained the reason behind not sending Sanju Samson to bat at the start of the super over. He said, “Initially Sanju and KL were supposed to go, but I went in because I was more experienced. I haven’t been part of a super-over for too long but happy to have got my team across.”

Kohli shared the learning e had in the last two tied games, he said that when the opposition is playing well, team needs stay calm till the end and try to come back and it shows the character of the team.
