In the much-awaited Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Rajasthan Royals (RR) is locking horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 27 (Friday). In the first innings, Virat Kohli showed a brilliant piece of sportsmanship as he denied a run after a throw from a fielder deflected from his body.

After winning the toss, RR skipper, Sanju Samson decided to bowl first citing the unpredictability of a new pitch. As expected, both the teams made no changes to their respective playing XIs. RCB suffered an early blow as they lost the wicket of Virat Kohli early in the second over itself.  Kohli continued his lean patch with the knock but he won the heart of the spectators with a display of sportsmanship.

Trent Boult was bowling the first over the innings and he bowled a delivery straying down the pads on the second ball. Virat Kohli was on strike and he flicked it square of the wicket. The fielder took an aim at the non-striker’s end but the throw hit Kohli. The ball then deviated off his body but Kohli denied taking a run-on over-throw.

This was followed by an important partnership between Rajat Patidar and Faf du Plessis. However, Faf du Plessis went back dismissed for 25 from 27 balls, and then, Glenn Maxwell walked out to bat. Maxwell enjoys batting against spinners is a well-known fact and he did just that as he smashed boundaries in the over of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal to the cleaners.

But Glenn Maxwell’s cameo was cut short by some brilliance in the field. Eventually, RCB only managed to post a total of 157/8 courtesy of a half-century from Rajat Patidar who scored 58 runs. They were going well at 146/5 with two overs to go and Dinesh Karthik was in the middle. Karthik was expected to take the team to a total of at least 160 but Prasidh Krishna prevented him from doing so.
