In major chaos and confusion over a DRS call opted by the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli in the ongoing third T20I at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), the umpires denied the option to the Men in Blue as they had a chance of taking the wicket of a very well set Australia opener Matthew Wade. The incident unfurled in the 11th over when Wade attempted a flick shot off a full-length delivery coming in towards him from T Natarajan. The ball went on to hit straight on to his pads but neither Natarajan nor KL Rahul thought to challenge the decision of the on-field umpire.
What happened next was one rare incident in the history of modern-day cricket as Kohli, fielding in the deep, took the review which was initially accepted before being denied by the umpires. Because of teh fact that India took the review only after the replay of the delivery was shown on the big screen.

Matthew Wade was also heard saying, “They have referred it? It was shown on the big screen.”
A confused Virat Kohli was then seen having a chat with the umpires and had a brief discussion before walking back to his field position, looking rather unconvinced. Whether or not the replay was played before the end of 15 seconds is still unknown.

Had the umpires not deemed India’s review null and void, Matthew Wade would have been seen going back to the pavilion as the Ball Tracker showed three reds on the screen.
India wanted to review a decision against Wade but only after the replay was shown on the big screen!

New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham was quick to react to the incident as he in his typical fashion tweeted, “That’s gotta be the most mistakes made in a 20 second window in all cricket.”

Here is how commentators Aakash Chopra and Harsha Bhogle reacted:
The referral against Wade raises an interesting question. If the big screen shows the replay within the time allotted for the referral, can you disallow the referral? In this case we need to see the timer but the question is valid

Right decision made. Can’t have the review after the replays are on the big screen. But was it up earlier than it should have been??? Or was it played only after 15 seconds had lapsed?? #Wade #Natarajan #AusvInd
