Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag will lead Maratha Arabian team in the T10 Cricket League, while Wasim Akram will be in the role of mentor for the same team.
Kumar Sangakkara and Fakhar Zaman will also feature in this team. This will be inaugural edition of this kind of league, where both teams will play a 10-over per innings match.
The players draft will take place on November 5 in Dubai, but Arabians have won the right to pick players first in the draft.
Team owner Parvez Khan confirmed the development and said “Akram’s expertise will help the young bowlers and he will guide the team accordingly. With Sehwag around, we are hoping for a great season.”
Post his retirement, Akram has mentor several franchise in the shorter version of the game. Most notably, Kolkata Knight Riders crowned champion under his mentorship. “Akram knows the conditions in Sharjah well and that will help the side do better in the tournament,” one team official stated.
Both legends will attend the players draft on November 5 in Dubai as per the reports from Sportstar and Akram is very excited to work with him.
“Having Sehwag as the team captain has accelerated my excitement. T10 is the shortest format of cricket, so it’s going to be amazing to watch a shorter format than T20. I’m really extremely thrilled to be appointed as the mentor and the coach of Team Maratha Arabians,” said Akram to Sportstar.
Six Indian sub-continent teams will play in this league at Sharjah from November 14 to 17.
