The 2022 season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been off to a flying start as in just 5 matches, the tournament has received immense love from fans. The unpredictability of the tournament is what makes it so famous. An incident that occurred with Wahab Riaz in today’s PSL match explains that very fact. Peshawar Zalmi took on Islamabad United in today’s first PSL clash at the Karachi National Stadium.
Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan decide to bowl first after winning the toss. Peshawar Zalmi openers put forward a mediocre performance. Tom Kohler-Cadmore departed for a duck while Yasir Khan scored just 14 off 9. The performance of the middle order batters, namely Haider Ali and Hussein Talat failed to do much as they added just 17 runs.

It was Shoaib Malik who then came in and gave momentum to Peshawar’s batting order. However, the game-changing knock came from Sherfane Rutherford who had amassed 70 off just 46 deliveries and turned the tables completely. The cameo of Ben Cutting (26 off 17) was also helpful. Peshawar Zalmi was thus able to put forward a total of 168 runs which can be considered as a defendable total.
However, Islamabad United was simply phenomenal right from the beginning. Their openers Paul Stirling (57 off 25) and Alex Hales (82 off 54) scored almost the entirety of the required runs at a brisk rate. After Stirling’s dismissal, Rahmanullah Gurbaz came in and his 27 off 16 took Islamabad past the required total, hence winning the match.

However, an unfortunate event took place during the match which caught the attention of the fans. Peshawar Zalmi skipper, Wahab Riyaz came into a bowl when Paul Stirling and Alex Hales were still batting. While facing Alex Hales, he slipped horribly in his run-up and fell down injuring his hand. Fortunately enough the injury was not that serious.
