Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer on Friday expressed that the current BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly is the best captain he had played under. Wasim made his international debut under the leadership of the batting legend, Sachin Tendulkar and he played most of the Test matches (15) under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid.
Jaffer, who played 31 Tests, 2 ODIs for the Indian team, had a ball of time under Dravid before playing his last international game under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Jaffer also said that Sourav Ganguly was the one who made the Indian side after 2000.
However, Jaffer didn’t do well under Ganguly’s captaincy as he played just five Test matches. In the sevens innings of those Test matches, Wasim scores just 149 runs with the highest score of 86 against West Indies.

During a recent chat with CricTracker, Jaffer said, “Sourav Ganguly was the one who made the team after 2000. He had the temperament, backed the players and gave them a longer rope. He made Sehwag open the batting and brought players like Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh.”
When Sourav Ganguly was named as the Indian skipper in 2000, Indian cricket was in a lot of trouble, picking up pieces after the match-fixing scandal. He made sure that the Indian team earns respect and he also instilled the belief in the eyes of fans that India could win overseas, thus, becoming one of the most successful captains India has ever had.

One of the unforgettable characteristics of Ganguly’s capacity which every yesteryear cricketer appreciates is the unending support he had extended towards his match-winners. It was Sourav who backed young players like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, and lots more.
