In recent times, it seems that KL Rahul can do all possible things on a cricket field. When he is asked to bat, he is just not disappointing. After scoring three T20I fifties and one ODI century as an opener since December, he scored yet another whirlwind fifty in the ongoing second ODI of the three-match series between India and Australia at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot.

In first innings, Rahul smashed 80 from just 52 balls to help India post a daunting total of 340 for 6 in the do-or-die game. India were 280 for 4 in 44 overs when the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli departed and soon lost Manish Pandey as well and then Rahul had the responsibility to steer through India’s innings and he did not disappoint.

Rahul found the boundaries whenever required as India scored 53 in the final five. He eventually was run out in the last over for 80 in the final over. In the second innings, he made a big impact with the wicketkeeping gloves too. With Rishabh Pant out of action after suffering a concussion, Rahul donned the gloves once again and pulled off a stunning piece of stumping to send back Australia skipper Aaron Finch who had scored an unbeaten century in the previous game.

Australia started their pursuit of 341 on a shaky note with their in-form opener David Warner departing for just 15. But Finch and Steve Smith soon brought the chase on track and were looking set to share a big stand. However, before they could do so, KL Rahul ended the stand that was worth 62 runs with a fine piece of work behind the stumps.

On the first ball of the 16th over, Ravindra Jadeja bowled a delivery that turned away at the last moment. Finch, who had gone for the big shot, could not connect with the ball and Rahul took off the bails in a flash, just like MS Dhoni.
