Western Railways Demands INR 27 Lakhs From Harmanpreet Kaur

India Women’s cricket team star Harmanpreet Kaur isn’t a new name for the household in our nation. She gathered a lot of praise for her heroics in the Women’s World Cup 2017.when she scored 171 runs against Australia in the semi-final last year. Following the team’s miraculous performance in the tournament, she was bestowed with Arjuna award by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports government of India.

Three years back, Harmanpreet joined the Indian Railways (Western) as an Office Superintendent under sports quota and signed a five-year contract with them. However, she has been jobless for the last five months. She was offered the DSP position in the Punjab Police Department last year. But there are clouds of uncertainty all over for Kaur now as the Railways rejected her resignation.

The Western Railways refused to release her because of the five-year contract. The Western Railways, according to a report, is “demanding Rs 27 lakh” as a compensation for not being able to abide by the agreement.

Kaur wishes to take up the offered position with the Police Department and when she was contacted by the media, she confirmed that the Railways had not paid her for the last five months. She said, “I worked for three years only. But, they are asking for the salary of five years to waive off the bond and relieve me.”

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has come out in support of the cricketer. He has reportedly taken up the matter with the Union Railway Ministry on more than one occasion to seek leisure for her.
