On Saturday, the BCCI has finally announced that Jaipur will be hosting the upcoming 2020 edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge. As many as seven matches will be played in the tournament during the playoffs of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Women’s T20 Challenge will be having one addition this time around as four teams will be locking horns with each this time instead of three.
In a press release regarding the same, BCCI said, “As part of its ongoing commitment to growing the women’s game, BCCI is pleased to announce the 2020 Women’s T20 Challenge. The tournament which started in 2018 and was a huge success, further garnered all the right eyeballs in the year to follow. The 2019 games, comprising three teams were played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur during the IPL Playoff and Finals week.”

It further added, “The tournament was played with great intensity which saw the winner of the 2019 WT20 Challenge being decided over the last ball of the match. 2020 aims to be no different and this edition will see a 4th team added to the tournament. The WT20 Challenge this year will feature some of the world’s best women cricketers and will have 7 matches played during the IPL Playoff week at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.”
The Women’s T20 challenge started in 2018, and a one-off match was played in Mumbai. In the inaugural edition, Supernovas won the game by three wickets in a nail-biting game, which ended in the final over against the Trailblazers at the Wankhede Stadium.
In 2019, it was a three-team tournament instead of a one-off match, featuring a new team called IPL Velocity along with IPL Trailblazers and IPL Supernovas. IPL Supernovas retained the title in the second edition as they defeated IPL Velocity by four wickets.

The 13th edition of the IPL is scheduled to commence from March 29 with defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) taking on the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in what will be Dhoni’s first game after an 8-month sabbatical.
