The much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) faced a rain delay, resulting in the match being moved to the reserved day. The toss couldn’t take place, and the summit showdown couldn’t commence at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

This situation brought back memories of the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup semi-final between India and New Zealand, which had to be rescheduled to a reserve day due to rain. New Zealand emerged victorious in that match, marking it as MS Dhoni’s final ODI in the Indian jersey.

When Dhoni was asked about his plans by Harsha Bhogle after IPL 2023 Qualifier 1, the CSK captain remained uncertain, stating that he had ample time, around 8-9 months, to decide. He mentioned the upcoming small auction in December and expressed his commitment to CSK, whether as a player or in a different capacity.

According to the IPL rules, a reserve day is allocated for the final in case the match fails to start by the 12:06 AM cut-off time. In such a scenario, a five-overs-per-side contest will take place. Fortunately, there are no predictions of rain in Ahmedabad on Monday, May 29, indicating the possibility of a full 20-over match.
